"Akron/Family & The Angels Of Light" è un disco incredibile, che mette semplicemente insieme due ep che già da soli farebbero urlare al miracolo. Figuratevi l'accoppiata allora. Gli Akron/Family superano se stessi, cioè fanno ancora meglio di quanto fatto ascoltare nell'esordio di qualche mese fa. Mettono in fila sette canzoni in cui i riescono a contenere la loro follia visionaria in strutture che sanno di rock urticante e classico allo stesso tempo. La coralità folk del primo brano, "Awake", viene subito schiacciata dall'irruenza delle chitarre molto 70s di "Moment", un vero inno punk in questi tempi di iper-contaminazione. "We All Will" è il primo capolavoro dell'album, una ballata meravigliosa costruita sui glissando delle chitarre elettriche che si trasforma in un folk sghembo che frulla insieme mille riferimenti per tirar fuori un nettare dal sapore unico. In "Future Myth", un'altra vetta dell'album, i quattro di New York si lasciano andare a quelle spettacolari divagazioni free rock che infiammano i loro show dal vivo. The band seems to have become his muse, providing his backing band for his "Sings Other People" because of the energy and talent he felt they possessed.For their part, Akron/Family seems to have taken to working closely with Gira as their mentor and producer. On this new split, where A/F again play with Gira as Angels of Light, and on their own with Gira producing, the relationship is clearly inspirational for both groups.A/F provides the first seven tracks. The music on their self-titled debut only hints at the power on display here. With "Awake" the band opens the album quietly, with the group chanting the lyrics over minor key guitar, but immediately they explode into "Moment", a song bursting with noise and chaos, and some of the most conventional songwriting the band has done. Over the course of their songs, the band continues to move between pastoral folkmusings to Grateful dead-like jamming, while always exploring sonic possibilities, creating songs that never go......
